Norfolk Family Walk 2024 Sponsorship Form
The Eighteenth Norfolk Family Walk for Brain Tumours will be held at Holkham Hall, near Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, NR23 1RH, on Sunday 22nd September 2024 from 10 am to 4pm. There is ample parking on the estate – a £6 car park fee is charged which can be redeemed at the shop on purchases of £35 or more.
Please come and join us and enjoy all this lovely part of the country has to offer!
PARKLAND, LAKE AND WOODS
The walk is in aid of brain tumour research and support and has a choice of distances – one, three, six or ten miles – to suit all ages and abilities. Or alternatively plan your own route! All are through the beautiful parkland, some beside the lake and through the woods where deer can be seen grazing.
There are no hills to climb on any of the walks and dogs on leads are welcome.
A RAFFLE WILL BE HELD AT THE START/FINISH WITH VALUABLE PRIZES OF GIFT TOKENS including entrance to local attractions, retail gift vouchers and meals out.
WALKS FOR ALL ABILITIES
The one mile walk is aimed at children and the less able. This walk is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs as it is all on a hard surface.
The three mile walk takes you around the beautiful lake where a great variety of wildfowl can be seen – this walk is a favourite with many people with children as there is so much to see!
The six mile walk (see red line on map) also takes in the lake – an opportunity for more people to enjoy the lovely scenery and abundant wildlife.
THE TEN MILE WALK
The ten mile walk also takes in the seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea with its quaint shops and lovely quay where you can stop for a drink (coffee or maybe something stronger) or partake in the traditional enjoyment of fish and chips sitting on the wall and watching the world go by (if you’re not it too much of a hurry of course!) After a walk on the bank path towards the sea, you will find a café where you can enjoy an ice cream or coffee to refresh you before walking alongside the pine trees which mark the start of your return journey to Holkham (there are toilets here too).
If you are planning to do the ten mile walk (see yellow line on map), it is advisable to get to the start around 10am to allow ample time to finish by 4pm. If you are doing one of the shorter walks, it’s ok to arrive later.
A map is available to assist you on your way and the route is also signposted.
Once the registration fee of £5 has been paid (children free), walkers are then free to support the brain tumour charity of their choice. You can download a registration form to save a little time on the day, or you can do it on arrival (see the top of this page for links to the registration and sponsorship forms).
SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
If you have any non-walkers in your party, they will find there is plenty to amuse them while you’re doing the walk, including the house (open for viewing on Sundays), museum, walled gardens, shop and a woodland play area. There is also an opportunity to hire cycles.

ARRIVING BACK
Once you have arrived back (don’t forget to book back in), you can sit and relax outside at the Courtyard restaurant if the weather is amiable where great food and drink is on offer, or there is plenty of room inside – a great way to catch up with family and friends!
The Norfolk Family Walk is very popular with our faithful supporters who return year after year to honour the memory of loved ones lost to a brain tumour or support those on their brain tumour journeys. We also have brain tumour patients doing the walk supported by family and friends. It is Astro Brain Tumour Fund’s biggest fundraising event. Perhaps this will be your first year – old or new friends will be made most welcome!
SPONSORSHIP
Each year, many of the walkers are sponsored by family and friends – could you get sponsorship for your efforts this year? You can download a sponsorship form from the link at the top of this article. The easiest way to get sponsors is to open a Just Giving page in order for your friends and family to sponsor you online but we have a sponsorship form too for those more “hands-on”. Either download the sponsorship form at the link at the top of this page or email [email protected] for a copy.
INSPIRATION
On the registration forms for the walk, participants are asked who/what is their inspiration for taking part. Some are remembering loved ones who have passed away from a brain tumour, some are walking in hope for loved ones diagnosed, some recently, some many years ago. We also have brain tumour patients taking part and others who just want to support the charity. Some just come along for the walk! Whatever their reason for taking part, it’s a happy and reflective occasion – everyone says how much they enjoy the event.
A WEEKEND AWAY
Lots of people come back year after year to enjoy walking in the beautiful surroundings of this country estate which is situated on the lovely North Norfolk Coast. Some come from different parts of the country and take the opportunity to have a weekend away and enjoy all that this unique area has to offer
